$ Site Reliability & Platform Engineer

Download CV (PDF) updated 2026-09

I started out as a PHP developer, switched to sysadmin work out of a *nix passion, and have spent the last 14 years in DevOps, SRE and platform engineering - for startups and large companies alike. Today I build the cloud infrastructure and developer platform behind AxonIQ’s distributed, event-driven products: multi-cloud on GCP and AWS, everything as code in Terraform. I help engineering teams ship faster and sleep better.

  1. Site Reliability Engineer AxonIQ

    10/2021 - Present Utrecht, Netherlands - Remote
    • Design, build and maintain the cloud infrastructure and developer platform powering AxonIQ's distributed, event-driven products across GCP (primary) and AWS.
    • Own the Terraform codebase: modules for GCP projects, IAM, networking, storage and full environment lifecycle. Introduced Terraform and imported the pre-existing GCP estate into code.
    • Operate and evolve the Kubernetes platform running AxonServer clusters, and develop the Go-based AxonServer SE/EE operator built on Kubebuilder.
    • Build and maintain GitHub Actions pipelines for build, test and deployment across Java/Kotlin, Go and TypeScript services.
    • Migrated and scaled the monitoring stack from a single VM to Kubernetes; own uptime and observability for production systems built on CQRS/Event Sourcing.
    • Developer enablement: self-service environment provisioning and platform tooling that removed day-to-day friction for product teams.
  2. Site Reliability Engineer Realtainment GmbH

    05/2020 - 09/2021 Berlin, Germany
    • Built the company's Kubernetes clusters from scratch on DigitalOcean for the new product platforms.
    • Designed the monitoring and alerting system on the ELK stack and owned alert quality.
    • Worked alongside developers on writing and delivering better code to production.
  3. DevOps Engineer AUTO1 Group GmbH

    02/2017 - 04/2020 Berlin, Germany
    • Migrated the whole infrastructure from Linode/Rackspace to AWS: EC2, RDS (PostgreSQL and MySQL), ECS, S3, SES, SNS, SQS, Route 53 and Lambda.
    • Managed infrastructure as code with Terraform, secrets in Vault and configuration management with SaltStack.
    • Built the automation for provisioning RDS instances, users, grants, databases and schemas, and for restoring/trimming production backups into QA environments.
    • Dockerized most services and moved them onto ECS, deployed through Jenkins.
  4. DevOps Engineer HostelsClub.com

    01/2016 - 12/2016 Venice, Italy
    • Migrated the website to AWS (EC2 + RDS), with instances managed by Ansible.
    • Started breaking the old monolithic codebase into microservices.
  5. DevOps Engineer Quag

    09/2012 - 12/2015 Padua, Italy
    • Moved the codebase from SVN to Git and rebuilt every environment under Puppet.
    • Deployed the Django frontend through Puppet - the first real DevOps practice I ran end to end.
  6. System Engineer Volunia

    08/2010 - 09/2012 Padua, Italy
    • Installed and configured every server and service across all environments of a search-engine startup: Apache Hadoop and HBase, httpd, Tomcat, HAProxy, nginx and MySQL.
    • Ran large HDFS migrations and kept the cluster highly available.
  7. System Engineer WeTrade SIM S.p.A. / SORINT.lab

    05/2007 - 07/2010 Parma & Bergamo, Italy
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4/5 and Sun Solaris 9/10 systems engineering for financial-services and enterprise clients.
    • High availability with Veritas Cluster Server; started out writing PHP before moving fully to systems work.

> Products & Side Projects

InPedana Founder - 2026 to present

Web dashboard that turns Italian Rhythmic Gymnastics results into athlete- and club-centric career histories: ranking per competition, podiums, per-apparatus trends and year-over-year breakdowns. Built end to end - the scraper for public results, the identity resolver handling transcription variants and homonyms, the web app, the admin tooling and the production deployment.

NutriFinder Founder - 2026 to present

Sports-nutrition discovery platform for endurance athletes, making it easier for runners, cyclists and triathletes to find and compare gels, drinks and supplements. Handling product, technical architecture, go-to-market and growth.

OSDb Founder

An open, structured data layer for sports nutrition: indexed ingredient data and a public read-only API, starting with energy gels.

> How I Work

  • Kubernetes is a tool, not a goal - a managed PaaS or a few VMs is the right answer more often than the industry admits.
  • SLOs tied to real business outcomes, and alert hygiene that means fewer pages and more signal.
  • Golden paths built on what a team already runs, not a greenfield rewrite.
  • The point of good platform work is to leave a team better off without you.
